Drain cleaning, from the sink to the street

A slow kitchen sink and a backed-up main line are different jobs. A good plumber figures out which one you have before quoting a price, and clears it with equipment sized for the actual blockage.
What's it usually cost?
- Single fixture (one sink, tub, or toilet): the cheap end of drain work
- Main line clearing: more, since the blockage sits further out and takes bigger equipment
- Camera inspection after clearing: priced on its own, and worth it if the clog keeps coming back
Access drives the number most. A cleanout in the open is a different job than a clog reached through a finished wall, and the pro who calls can usually size up which one you have over the phone.
Why does the clog keep coming back?
The older Yakima neighborhoods have clay and cast-iron laterals that root intrusion loves. Clearing the line buys time; it doesn't fix the pipe. If the same drain backs up twice in a year, the right next step is a camera look, not another snaking. That tells you whether you're dealing with roots, a belly in the line, or a collapsed section.
When is it urgent?
- Sewage backing up into a tub or floor drain: stop running water and call it urgent
- One slow drain: can wait for a normal appointment
- Multiple fixtures backing up at once: that's the main line, treat it as urgent
