Sewer replacement without the trench

Small access pit with pipe-bursting equipment in a front yard

The older Yakima neighborhoods have clay and cast-iron laterals that are past their life. The traditional fix is a backhoe and a trench across the yard. Trenchless methods replace or reline that pipe through a couple of access holes instead, which matters when the line runs under a driveway, a tree, or twenty years of landscaping.

What are the options?

  • Pipe bursting: a new pipe gets pulled through the old one, breaking it apart as it goes. Full replacement, no trench
  • Lining (CIPP): a resin sleeve is cured inside the old pipe, creating a new pipe inside it. Works when the line still has shape and slope
  • Traditional dig: still the right call for collapsed sections or bellies; honest pros tell you when trenchless isn't the answer

What does it cost?

Trenchless work is quoted per job, since length, depth, and access set the number for a residential lateral. It's real money, but compare it honestly: a dig-and-replace quote plus concrete, landscaping, and driveway repair often lands in the same place, with a torn-up yard included free of charge.

Where should I start?

With a camera scope. Nobody should be quoting sewer replacement, trenchless or otherwise, without footage of what's actually wrong. Scope first, then compare options.
